The idea of needing to pick and choose places to dress up may seem a little strange to some, but when you think about it, it makes sense. The world is more casual with each passing day. In many respects, that’s a good thing, and you can still get by with a sort of glamorous version of casual. For instance, who doesn’t love walking through shopping districts in Lulu attire on a sunny summer day? Still, dressing up in the fanciest and most fashion-forward outfit you have is a lot of fun on occasion, and there seem to be fewer and fewer occasions and places to do it.

Nice resorts are certainly an exception however. While not everyone at these resorts is dressed to the nines, you can certainly fit in with your nicest outfits on, whether you’re strolling through the lobby, relaxing elsewhere on the premises, dining at an in-house restaurant, or even simply coming and going. With that in mind we’ve picked out five such resorts and luxury hotels in the U.S. where you can still get away with acting the part of a bona fide fashionista.

1. Sebastian Vail – Vail, Colorado

You can’t get much more posh than Vail, other than perhaps by visiting other Colorado resort towns, such as Aspen. And it just so happens that the Sebastian Vail resort is one of the best in town. The area is near the top five of just about every category for Colorado getaways, including shopping, dining, nightlife, and actual skiing, which means you really can make quite the fancy getaway out of it. For a true fashionista, not much beats strutting out of a resort this beautiful after a long day on the slopes, wearing a killer outfit and heading to one of innumerable fine Vail establishments.

2. Mandarin Oriental – New York, New York

New York speaks for itself. While it’s one of the best cities in the world for casual dining and drinking experiences of excellent quality, it’s also one city where you can still dress up in your nicest outfit to go to dinner without looking the least bit out of place. And if you’re looking for this kind of fancy, luxury experience, as well as a place to stay where you’ll feel comfortable showing off your wardrobe, you really can’t beat the Mandarin Oriental these days. This is a chain of resorts in some of the most alluring cities on the planet, and it’s known for impeccable taste, comfort, and luxury. You can’t overdress at the Mandarin.

3. The Setai – Miami, Florida

As with New York, Miami is a city where you can still go out in the nicest items from your wardrobe without feeling out of place or overdressed. Granted it tends to be quite hot, which means dressing up in Miami isn’t necessarily the same thing as dressing up in New York (or Vail for that matter), but the general atmosphere stands. There are any number of appropriate luxury resorts in Miami for this exact purpose as well, but The Setai Miami Beach takes the cake. It’s an extraordinary hotel that combines luxury with a certain home-like comfort, all while capturing the vibe of Miami Beach perfectly.

4. Caesars Palace – Las Vegas, Nevada

More than any other name on this list, Caesars in something of an institution, and one with nationwide influence. There are resorts in Lake Tahoe, Atlantic City, and New Orleans, and Caesars has also cemented itself as a major player in the growing market for sports betting in the U.S., which could mean more hotels in the future. The Las Vegas resort is still something of a classic though, and while there are fancier places on the Vegas Strip these days, there’s just something intoxicating about dressing up nicely in the midst of all of the Roman decor of the place. You’ll feel like a modern goddess in the age of heroes.

5. The Jefferson – Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. is if anything underrated for the quality of its resorts and hotels. It’s a beautiful town where some of the wealthiest and most important people in the world regularly gather to meet in person, and accordingly it’s come to have some absolutely wonderful hotels. To label any one of them best would be presumptuous, but The Jefferson belongs in the conversation. Noted as an ideal destination for those seeking comfort and convenience in America’s busy capital, it’s also a luxurious spot that’s right in the thick of the action. You’ll truly feel like royalty dressed up in your very best heading in and out of this hotel.
